The faculty of the American Academy of Motor Vehicle Injuries has brought together the top experts in the field of personal injury to teach doctors, attorneys, and chiropractors through our various courses.
Bill Gallagher, DC, CME, CMVI
Dr. Gallagher founded the American Academy of Motor Vehicle Injuries out of his own frustration of not being able to find a complete program on personal injury and concussion. After having studied with other he found that each had valuable information but none had a complete program. His objective with The Academy was to create a way to teach doctors how to properly diagnose, document, and manage a personal injury case.
Scott Tauber, D C, DACBO
Dr. Tauber is the co-founder of the American Institute of Personal Injury Physicians. He brings years of experience of reviewing files for insurance companies and in the latter half of his career teaching doctors what insurance companies need. His knowledge and experience in documentation and management of personal injury cases puts him at the top in this field.
Sean Mahan, MD
Dr. Mahan is the founder of EliteRad a radiology group that specializes in reading for trauma. He and his team give a far more detailed analysis of MRI’s and brain scans that directs the doctor to the problems and the attorney to a better settlement. He teaches doctors what to look for and how to differentiate between acute and chronic problems.
Joseph Kavanagh, MD
Dr Kavanagh is one of the team members at EliteRad. He specializes in reading trauma radiographic studies and he reads for cases in the State of Arizona. He is one of The Academy’s radiology instructors
Avery Knapp, MD
Dr. Knapp is another member of the EliteRad team who specializes in trauma and brain scans. His classes on brain scans covers the different types of studies and what information they offer. This information has been especially helpful to doctors doing personal injury work.
Andrew Ackerman, MD
Dr Ackerman is also part of the EliteRad team and is exceptionally experienced with spinal injuries having been there himself. His dedication to this shows in his work and his lectures.
Mr Mathis created a program for State Farm called TEACH, which was the foundation for Colossus. When Allstate brought in Colossus they also brought in James Mathis to teach and manage that program for them. He has spoken to doctors and Bar Associations across the country. As the person most responsible for the insurance industry’s paradigm his classes are essential for anyone doing personal injury work.
Jeffery Crock, DC, JD
Dr Cronk is founder and owner of Spinal Kinetics and teacher our ligament injury class for the academy. His work at measuring the extent of ligament damage imparts greater insight to the understanding of this injury, commonly seen in personal injury cases. His dedication to getting his message out to both doctors and lawyers let him earn a law degree.
Lois’ research and understanding of brainstem trauma and associated autonomic nervous system dysfunction provides our doctors with tremendous insight into how a whiplash type injury can affect the nervous system. Her Dynamic Functional Cranial Nerve Assessment Tool® raises the bar on a cranial exam. Her additional classes offer the tools with which to address the findings from the examination.
Lawrence Lazzara, JD
Mr. Lazzara practices in personal injury exclusively and prides himself in being able to obtain settlements that allow doctors to be paid in full. His knowledge and experience help add value to the medical legal class. His dedication to the chiropractic profession has been instrumental in bringing more personal injury classes to more doctors in Arizona.
Nicholas Vakula, JD
Mr. Vakula Is a member of the million dollar club in Arizona having won a million dollar judgment in court. His experience in court and working with chiropractors on personal injury cases eliminates the need to introduce him when he teaches for The Academy. His experience and research make him one of the most respected trial lawyers in Arizona.
David Morrison, JD
Mr. Morrison is a personal injury attorney who is also the Arizona Association of Chiropractic Legal Counsel and representative at national meetings. He couples knowledge and experience in personal injury with a deeper understanding of the chiropractic profession.
Garvey Biggers, JD
Mr. Biggers spent his career as a defense attorney in the field of personal injury. He recently left that side and now works as a plaintiff attorney bringing a wealth of knowledge of how the other half works. His experience of keeping witnesses on the hot seat make his classes on testimony priceless to our doctors.
Sandra’s is a billing and coding expert whose experience working with both doctors and attorneys allows her to teach these subjects with ease that both professions can understand. She works closely with James Mathis and Sequoia Visions creating demand packages for attorneys doing personal injury.
Greg Hauser, DC
Greg is the only doctor in Arizona who is also ACTAR Certified as a Crash Reconstructionist. This allows him to testify not only to the damage done to a vehicle in a crash but how that damage could affect the individuals in that vehicle. He is also board certified in pediatrics and he is the regional educational director for Activator Methods.
Doug Smith, MD
Doctor Smith is an orthopedic surgeon who switched to radiology when he got to work with the third MRI installed in the United States He has read over 300,000 MRIs with a focus on personal injury cases. He has also done extensive research with upright MRIs. Upright MRIs give a better picture of disc, brainstem and cerebellar tonsils involvement.
Igor Yusupov, MD
Dr. Yusupov is a neurosurgeon who specializes in minimally invasive surgical procedures. He also brings a unique understanding of the spinal injuries commonly seen in motor vehicle collisions. He understands injuries to the spine and brain and how chiropractors can work with those injures.
Sumit Dewanjee, MD
Dr. Dewanjee is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in shoulders, hips and knees. He has extensive experience with personal injury cases. His presentations for The Academy are always well received.
Ty Tallman, NMD
Ty is a graduate of the AAMVI who has taught extremities examinations and documentation classes. His practice is focused solely on personal injury, providing minor surgical procedures, medical validations, and whole person permanent impairment ratings.
